Participants of Falak Syar'ie course feted

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) through the 'Pusat Penataran Ilmu dan Bahasa' (PPIB) recently had organised a closing and appreciation ceremony, followed by the breaking of fast for participants of the "Kursus Sijil Falak Syar'ie UNISSA-UniSZA 2014".

The course had been ongoing for four weeks starting June 9 until July 5. This course exercise was the first one to be held by PPIB, UNISSA alongside Falak Department, Faculty of Contemporary Studies at Universiti Sultan Zainal Abiddin, Terengganu (UniSZA), Malaysia and also collaborated with the Survey Department at the Ministry of Development, Brunei Darussalam.

The guest of honour at the event was Haji Muhd Lutfi bin Haji Abdullah, Permanent Secretary (Administration and Finance) at the Ministry of Development.

Also present were Acting Rector of UNISSA, Dr Haji Norarfan bin Haji Zainal; Director of PPIB, Dr Siti Sara binti Haji Ahmad as the chairperson of the event; along with invited guests and UNISSA main officers.

According to the chairperson of the course committee of "Kursus Sijil Falak Syar'ie UNISSA-UniSZA 2014", Director of PPIB, Dr Siti Sara binti Haji Ahmad, 24 participants - 16 males and eight females - had participated in the course. These participants consisted of officers and staff from the Survey Department, State Mufti's Office, Mosque Affairs Department, Syariah Courts, academic staff as well as students from UNISSA, UBD, KUPU SB, and private participants.

Vital topics related to Falak knowledge in theory and practicals were addressed during the course, some of which were Development of Falak Knowledge in Malay World, Contemporary Issues, Samawi Geometry and Time System, Takwim Istilahi & Kiblat determination, prayer times, the publishment of prayer times, the usage of Almanak Falak Syar'ie, the calculation of the time of the passing of the sun in relation to Kiblat, moon sighting science, Rukyah and Math perspective, Rukyah Data calculation, the organisation of Takwim Imkannur Rukyah, Rukyah Simulation, Detection Amali and new moon perception.

As for the Instrumental and Practical part, the usage of Teodolite, the usage of measuring compass, the marking of the Kiblat, sun perception for determining Azimuth and the usage of telescope were addressed.

One hundred per cent of the participants had given positive response towards the course which was carried out through survey, in which they claimed the course had been successful and proved to be very beneficial and able to give them 'added value' as well as new and meaningful experiences. They also encouraged the course to be continued and made as an annual course collaboration.

During the appreciation ceremony, the guest of honour presented souvenirs and certificates to facilitators and participants. ©BRUDIRECT.COM
